Map? Check. Boots? Check. Water bottle?
I’ve got my Vayska.

The morning mist has finally cleared and I’m off on my adventure through Appalachia. This weekend: Eastern Tennessee. The mountains are rolling and I catch glimpses of the views through the trees. It’s not until I climb a large boulder that I see the entirety of my trek.

Let’s do this.

Sat. 10:32 AM 70°F

It’s turning out to be a cool spring day, perfect weather for mountain biking with the guys.

I pick up my bike and my helmet and comfortably wind through the trail. Each turn kicks up dirt and now I’m wearing a bit of the mountain on my Vayska.

Minutes later, I come to the peak of a hill overlooking an old town. The wind is blowing and the clouds are rolling in.

Views like this are why I love the Appalachian Mountains.

The wind is changing and a steady drizzle shrouds the mountains as I push my kayak off the banks of Watauga Lake.

There’s something so peaceful about the rain in the middle of water. I feel light and have everything where it needs to be. I can finally focus on the adventure before me.

Sun. 6:07 PM 71°F

It’s pouring now, but I don’t mind — everything I have is waterproof. And besides, the cool breeze is refreshing and the views are jaw-dropping.

I ran through the rain then began setting up camp, just to start another adventure tomorrow.
